Austria: Conchita Wurst (NF 2012) speaks to ESCDaily

EscDaily had the opportunity to speak to the glamorous Austrian Diva Conchita Wurst about her participation in the upcoming Austrian National Final and her career. Read below what she had to say:

ESCDaily: First, could you make a short introduction of yourself?

Conchita: I was born in Columbia. After a few years my parents and I went to Germany where i had a wonderful childhood. I met my husband in Paris four years ago. We decided to move to Vienna. Last spring i joined the “Salon Kitty Revue”, a burlesque show which inspired me to express myself through music. Said and done, here i am being one of the contestants for the Austrian National Final for the Eurovision Song Contest. :-)

ESCDaily: You’ve been selected as one of the finalists at the Austrian National Final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku. What are your feelings about this?

Conchita: I’m so excited about the nomination and I hope that Austria gives me the chance to shine for our country in Baku.

ESCDaily: Can you tell us a little bit more about your nomination in the National Final this year?

Conchita: Well, I was at a casting show called ‘Die große Chance’, after the final the Austrian jury for the esc selected me as one of the ten contestants and I can’t stop telling everyone how honored I am.

ESCDaily: What would it mean to you to represent your country in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Baku?

Conchita: For me, Austria is a very tolerant country. If I could be the embodied tolerance I would be blessed! It means a lot to me and I would love to spread it all over Europe. And since the Song Contest is one of the biggest events in the music industry, this competition is a chance to present my ideals in front of a very big audience.

ESCDaily: In case Austria selects you to represent them in Baku, what can we expect from you in the big show?

Conchita: I have no idea :-D I think it should be glamorous…. but I don’t know yet

ESCDaily: Have you already heard the other entries from the National Final and which one, apart from yours, you like the most?

Conchita: I really like the boys from ‘Trackshittaz’ cause their song is so much fun and party. ‘ideladap’ also is one of my favorites.

ESCDaily: Last year Austria returned to the Eurovision Song Contest and finally qualified for the final thanks to Nadine Beiler. What do you think about her entry last year?

Conchita: I loooooove Nadine! Such a great voice and those eyes!! I was so proud!

ESCDaily: Do you like the last years’ winning song “Running scared” from Ell & Nikki?

Conchita: Yes, I do! You know they did a really great job and the whole performance was just great!

ESCDaily: Are you an Eurovision fan?

Conchita: Of course! Celine Dion won in 1988, my year of birth!!!
So I always had a magical connection to this event

ESCDaily: What is your favorite Eurovision song ever?

Conchita: Celine Dion ‘Ne partez pas sans moi’

ESCDaily: Who are your musical inspirations?

Conchita: First of all Queen. But I also love Prince, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. :)

ESCDaily: Are you working on other projects at the moment, apart from the Austrian National Final?

Conchita: No cause I’m very focused, it’s all about the show :-)

ESCDaily: And one last thing – do you have a message for our ESCDaily readers?

Conchita: Spread tolerance to the world <3
