[cft format=0]

Farid Mammadov, singing the entry of Azerbaijan “Hold me”, spoke to ‘ESCDaily.com’ at the most crucial day of his life. Just few hours before his last rehearsal for tonight’s 2nd semi-final in Eurovision Song Contest…

1) Firstly, who is the singer Farid Mammadov? How his career bloomed?

I am singing live since I was 8 years old. At that time, I was performing in the music ensembles “Eastern Stars” and “Nightingales”. I chose my passion for music to be my occupation, so I studied in the University of Baku “Culture of Arts”. In the meanwhile I was performing at the “Baku Jazz Centre”. Besides that, my main hobby is sports. I practice every day to stay fit and for the last few years I am training in Capoeira; A Brazilian form of martial arts.

2) What made you want to represent your country in Eurovision this year?

Since the first time Azerbaijan took part in the Eurovision Song Contest, I was supporting our entries every single year and it became my dream to represent my country one day. I was getting ready, practicing a lot and this year I felt that my time has finally come.

3) Your song “Hold Me” contains some intense, emotional lyrics. Do you sing them for a certain person in your life?

I sing it for everyone who has ever felt love. My song is for love without borders. This feeling fulfils me and I want to share it with all people. I hope that one day I will meet that special person, whom I will be able to hold forever.

4) Last year, Azerbaijan hosted Eurovision. In which way did you follow this big event?

I was following all the news and watching the contest broadcast, but unfortunately I didn`t have the chance to attend the Baku Crystal Hall.

5) What would you ideally hope to achieve on the scoreboards in Malmo?

I hope to make it to the final. My number one target is to perform my song in the best possible way.

6) Have you heard any other entry from this year’s Eurovision? If you have, can you tell us a bit about the ones that you like the most?

One of the songs that I like this year is “You” by Robin Stjernberg, the Swedish participant. The song and the manner are very light and driven at the same time. Furthermore, I like Krista Siegfrids` song: “Marry me”! It`s very funny and playful. In addition Ukraine, Georgia and Russia are strong entries. It would not be a lie if I admit that all participants have something special to show and I hope that the Malmo Arena will be a place to shine.

7) Which is your favorite Eurovision entry and why?

One of the songs which I liked the most is “This is our night”. The 2009 Greek entry performed by Sakis Rouvas. It is a very rhythmic and energetic song that makes me want to dance. Moreover, Alexander Rybak’s entry is a distinguished one. Especially when at the end the dancers jump and perform a capoeira element!

8) Finally, would you like to give a message to the “ESCDaily.com” readers?

The only thing I would like to say to you is to feel lucky when you will find the love of  your life! Hold him/her and never let him/her go away…
