Finland: Norma John’s ‘Blackbird’ wins UMK 2017

Norma John has won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 and will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song ‘Blackbird’. While some other early fan favourites struggled, it was a clear victory for the pure ballad.

Finland: UMK cut down to just one show

Finland will be cutting down their selection format UMK to just one show, to be held on the 28th of January in Espoo. Ten songs will compete in the final, with the winning act earning the right to represent Finland at the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, Ukraine.

Aftermath 2016 (8): Sweden only Nordic powerhouse left

Tonight, Sandhja won the national final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, where Finland chose the power-pop number as their entry in Stockholm. From 18 finalists, three semi-final heats pared the competition down to the best nine entries, and the public decided that the song Sing it Away was worthy to carry the Finnish flag in May.
