ESC Daily Show: ‘Every country can win Eurovision’

According to Ewan Spence from ESC Insight, every country has an even chance to win the Eurovision Song Contest. He says this in the ESC Daily Show, where he reacts to the delegation fo San Marino, stating that they are not like Russia and don’t have the funds to really compete with the big nations.

“Every country gets three minutes on stage,” says Spence. “There are a lot of contributing factors, and money is one of them. In the productions of songs and possibilities in staging. But have you ever heard of Leicester City? Or the Austrian victory in 2014? Every country can send a song that is honest, genuine and heart felt. A single focused message that the rest of the world will believe in. All winning songs had a consisted message.”

Besides Ewan Spence, our presenter Steef van Gorkum also talks to the Finnish composer Jonas Gladnikoff, who has been responsible for the Irish entries in 2009, 2010 and 2014. After seeing all countries in the first semi final, he is pretty confident that the Czech Republic will make it to the final for the first time: “There is bound to get through at least one ballad. It is likely that the Czech Republic will be that ballad. It is the one that stands out the most.”
