Eurovision 2018: Lisbon confirmed as the 2018 host city

It has been only a matter of days since Salvador Sobral won for Portugal with a record number of points. RTP, the Portuguese national broadcaster have wasted no time in announcing Lisbon, the Portuguese capital as the 2018 host city.

Although we had an official city announcement today, we had no venue announcement today. In Lisbon, there is one arena often mentioned by fans and press that meets the strict EBU requirements of hosting Eurovision. That is the MEO Arena, Lisbon. It is a purpose built indoor arena and it is one of the largest within the European Union. With the capacity at 20,000, these figures make it seem a perfect venue to host the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

Amar Pelos Dois

Portugal won their first victory in 53 years on Saturday night (13th May) with Salvador Sobral. He reached a total of 758 points (382 jury points and 376 televote points). He won with a non English song titled Amar Pelos Dois. Portugal returned after a years absence, and won over the viewers at home. With less than a week since their victory, RTP wasted no time in announcing the Portuguese capital as the 2018 host city.
