‘Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu’ will make a return in 2013, with the song submission period opening on September 3rd, and ending on September 16th 2012. The UMK Grand Final will be held in February 2013.

YLE has outlined several rules for participation, and made it clear that each artist is only allowed to submit a maximum of one song in the contest, whilst songwriters may submit more than one song. Additionally, at least one of the authors of the entry of the song and the leading vocalist(s) must be a Finnish citizen or be a permanent resident in Finland.

A jury appointed by YLE will select the entrants to enter the next phase, the artists and songs, from the entries submitted for UMK.
