Hungary: “Saturday will be a battle between the divas”

“It is a starstruck field again in A Dal 2017,” says out chief editor Steef van Gorkum, who has been living in Hungary the last couple of years. In our weekly podcast Scout Around, he looks ahead to the final of A Dal.

“This year is special because it is the battle between two divas: Totova and Gigi Radics,” Steef explains. “Both very big names in the Hungarian music industry, and now both finalists. The whole set-up in the Hungarian media outlets is that they will be fighting against each other.”

Sometimes it happens, especially in A Dal, that when there are two acts so close to each other, some other participant takes the glory. “Andras Kállay Saunders was struggling towards the final, as he was not in top-3 of the jury votes in the second semi final and was sent to televoting. But perhaps this was some tactical voting of the jury, which they sometimes do in Hungary. Because they wanted to push televote-favourite Adam Szabo out. The only way to get rid of him was to put him up against someone like Andras Kállay Saunders.”

Very strong final!!! I would be very happy to see Totova win. I do think Origo is a beautiful
song as well. Good luck Hungary!
