Iceland: No change of strategy for Söngvakeppnin 2018

Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has released their plans for Söngvakeppnin 2018. Even though in recent years the result at the Eurovision Song Contest have been terrible for Iceland, they stick to the format of last year.

As was the case in 2017, the songs in the semi final must be performed in the Icelandic language. In the grand final, the candidates are allowed to perform their song in another language, if they intend to do so in Lisbon. Last edition, Svala (pictured above) made the change to English with her song ‘Paper’.

Two semifinals and one grand final

Artists and composers can apply for Söngvakeppnin 2018 until the 20th of October. The broadcaster will pick twelve songs, which will be devided over two semi finals on the 10th and 17th on February. On Saturday the 3rd of March, the six qualifiers and one wildcard will fight for the ticket to Portugal.
