Iceland: Svala Björgvinsdottir wins Söngvakeppnin 2017

Svala Björgvinsdottir has won Söngvakeppnin 2017, the Icelandic national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev. She will represent Iceland at the contest with her song ‘Ég veit það’.

Among the six participants of the final Svala was already the most well known name in the competition. She mostly came to fame after scoring a bit hit in Iceland in 2001, called The Real Me. From 2006 up to now she is also a member of the Icelandic band Steed Lord along with two brothers Demo and Mega, who is now Svala’s husband. After joining the band Svala has taken a stage name Kali.

She will perform an English version of her song ‘Ég veit það’ in Kiev, called ‘Paper’. You can check back our live blog for the show by clicking here.
