On the 13th March 2010, OGAE Greece had a meeting with Jon Lilygreen, the young singer from Wales who is representing Cyprus at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

I had the chance to be there and do an interview with him whilst discovering at the same time that he is such a talented singer and low-profile person. I did not have much time for the interview as the singer and his team had a busy program for the day but I managed to ask him some interesting questions regarding his Eurovision journey so far! Take a look on what Jon said…

EscDaily.com : First of all Jon let me welcome you to Greece. I hope you’re enjoying your time here…

Jon Lilygreen : I really do. Greece is a very beautiful country!

EscDaily.com : You’re from Wales. How come did you participated in the Cypriot National Final for the Eurovision Song Contest?

Jon Lilygreen : Well, actually I worked with Nasos Labrianidis who composed the song “Life looks better in spring”. Then he proposed to send the song at RIK (The Cypriot National Broadcaster) and I said to myself “why not?”. So, we did take part at the National Final of Cyprus!

EscDaily.com : How optimistic were you for the final result?

Jon Lilygreen : To be honest, I never expected to win the Final. There were many beloved Cypriot singers taking part in it, such as Constantinos Christoforou and Hovig so I never thought of me as the final winner. I am a stranger -not anymore though- for the Cypriot people. But I never stopped believing in my song and I was hoping that people in Cyprus would like it. Finally, as it seemed they loved it and voted it as their entry for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, something which makes me really happy!

EscDaily.com : You presented your song during the Greek National Final yesterday as well. How was your time there? Did you like the Greek song?

Jon Lilygreen : I had a great time during the Greek Final but I didn’t stay all night long ’cause I had to work. I left the studio after my performance. But, I like the Greek entry. “Opa” is a song totally Greek and I think European people will enjoy it a lot.

EscDaily.com : Have you heard any of the other countries’ songs?

Jon Lilygreen : To tell you the truth I had not the time to Google any other entry so I don’t have any opinion yet. But I will do it by the time I’ll have some free time!

EscDaily.com : Are you planning to promote your song?

Jon Lilygreen : I’m gonna travel in other countries before going to Oslo. I’m thinking of traveling to the Netherlands, London of course and Bulgaria.

EscDaily.com : Have you thought about your stage performance in Oslo?

Jon Lilygreen : Not yet. But pretty much it’s gonna be the same with the Cypriot Final’s performance. It’s a ballad, so there’s not much to do. For sure, all I want is to feel comfortable on stage…That’s what we did in Cyprus.

EscDaily.com : Finally, is there any message you would like to send to the Eurovision fans?

Jon Lilygreen : Sure! Guys, keep loving the contest and music in general and don’t stop supporting the singers and the artists! It means a lot to us!

EscDaily.com : O.k, Jon, it was great meeting you in person and chatting with you. Thank you a lot for this interview and I wish you the very best of luck in Oslo.

Jon Lilygreen : Thank you too, it was nice talking to you! Thank you so much for your wishes!
