Hello and welcome to the live report of the Russian national final for Junior Eurovision 2010, from Nazarov’s Theatre in Moscow. The show has just started, if you would like to watch the show too, you can choose from three quality streams on the RTR Planeta website here.
The hosts of the show are (as always for Russian national finals) Oxana Fedorova and Oskar Kuchera. The show has opened with a dance group. The hosts have introduced the jury, which includes Russian popstar Valeriya.
1. “Volshebniy Microphone” (Sasha Lazin and Liza Drozd)
The Magic Microphone duo are presenting a jazz-pop number with ease. A good start.
2. Maria Zaikina
Maria is joined by 5 older dancers wearing glasses along with black and white clothes with ties. Maria herself is wearing a pink blazer with a short skirt. The song is catchy quite poppy, although slightly repetitive.
3. Maria Chuchina and Anna Klimkina
The two girls are presenting a surprising rock-pop number. They are backed by a 3 member band in all black. The girls are wearing checked skirts with their hair tied back. The song has been very well composed, although the lyrics are slightly repetitive (the songtitle is repeated many times in the song). The singers are a out of tune, but the song may stand out enough for to win.
4. Darya Tkachuk
Darya is alone on stage, in a pink and black outfit. She is joined on stage with two female dancers. The song is in a samba style, and is very well performed. It’s recieved by the audience very well, who are all clapping along. There is a short instrumental towards the end of the song, in which the singer and dancers are performing their well choreographed routine. Darya has sold the song well. She should be proud of herself!
5. Kseniya Kochetkova
Kesniya is joined on stage by five dancers behind her. She has a guitar on her shoulder, although not playing it. The song is a quite generic, and probably won’t stand out in the large field of songs. Elements of rock and ABBA-ish pop can be heard too. Ksenya is producing a few false notes, but other than that, it seems to be fine.
Now the hosts are back on stage, Oxana has changed her dress into a flowery, summery one. They are reminding the audience that they can still vote, displaying the telephone and sms numbers on screen.
6. Yelena Onofrei
Young Yelena’s song is cute and poppy, something typically found in this country. The background is predominantly. SHe is joined by 5 older dancers. Yelena is clearly having fun on stage while singing, and presents her song in a good manner. The audience respond to it very well.
7. Anastasia Suchkova
Only 7 songs in, and we have another jazzy number, clearly influenced by the Russian entrant from 2007. Anastasia is joined on stage by male and female dancers, who a wearing suitswwith flowers. The song will not stand out to the others.
8. Yaroslav Gubarev
The song starts at a normal tempo, and the backing dancers pretending to paint thingys on their large axels. Once the chorus kicks in, the whole theatre comes alive. Yaroslav is slightly out of tune, but with a very strong song, I would definately consider it a contender to win.
9. Anastasia Kolesnikova
THe song starts slow, as is Anastasia is telling a story. As soon as the chorus starts, the rock-pop song kicks in. Anastasia has great stage presence along with a great song. There is another short instrumental with full action dancing. As with the start, the end is rather abrupt. Another strong song.
10. “Those Kids” band
The band, made up of 6 members, are dressed in pink and white. Judging by the lyrics, they are singing about school. Although in the schlager style that most people will like, the song and stage performance is very messy, and the camerawork does not help too. I must admit, the song is rather catchy and the audience appear to really like it.
Commercial break
11. “DaKi” duo
The two boys in the duo are selling their Pop/RnB song very well. They are wearing tracksuit tops and bottoms, with t-shirts displaying the name of the group, DaKi. They both have great stage presence, and obviously want to win. Towards the end of the song, there is a short rap interlude. It would be cool to see something like this at JESC, the audience definately like it.
12. Zölfät Ğabdullin
Zul’fat is joined on stage by 5 dancers to sing his uptempo pop song. The song is rather generic, I can’t see many faults with it. The choreography is rather good, although again spoiled by the camerawork. Zul’fat seems to have lots of support from the audience (lots of Tatar flags can be seen there) and the jury memebers seen on the camera also appeared to like it too.
13. Regina Aitova
As with most of the songs, Regina is joined on stage by a troupe of female dancers, with pompoms. The song is rather repetitive, and the vocals are rather substandard. I predict this song to get a mid-table result, as it doesn’t make the cut (or stand out) to be the winner.
14. “Dolphin” show band
The four memeber group are joined on stage by two dancers. They are probably the youngest kids to sing tonight, and their song follows a similar formula to most group songs, although rather outdated. Their harmonies are rather good, along with their vocals.
Now we have another break, which some footage of the performers time in Moscow, rehearsing and dancing in the city.
15. Olga Hayrullina
Olga’s song starts out rather slow, and as the first verse is over, the song about music picks up in pace. She is joined on stage with five boys playing various musical instruments. She is out of tune, but is confident and has good stage presence. The song ends on an out of tune note.
16. Regina Shaikhutdinova
The song starts slow, with shots of the dancers who are wearing latex outfits. The song seems to tell a story which sounds good along with the mysterious music. At the end of the song all the people on stage wave to the cameras.
17. Dmitry Narsiya
The next song is a techno-pop song performed by Dmitry with five dancers of the same age. Dmitry is rather flat, but is making use of the stage very well. The song ends rather abrupt, but Dmitry and his dancers sold this catchy number very well.
18. “Polyanka” quartet
This band are dressed in old fashioned clothes in a band setup. They are very out of tune, but seem to be having fun on stage. This is definately not a contender to win.
19. Darya Lukash
The start of the song is very high pitched and kiddy like. The song is almost like an uptempo ballad, which I have to admit is rather boring. Darya is aided by prerecorded adult backing vocals. I have to admit the song is rather unappealing, and the audience have not reacted to it as well as other songs.
20. Yekaterina Kvitiya
The final song of the night uses a variant of different genres and styles, from ballad, uptempo and pop. Ekaterina is in a white dress along with five male dancers in silver suits. The song seems to be about the world or the enrivonment, as a globe is used throughout the performance. Ekaterina is a good singer, and gets her point across very well. The audience responds very well.
Now we have the a recap of all 20 songs. From my personal view, the songs #03, #06, #11 and #17 are the best there.
After a long commercial break, we have a group song by all of the participants in the selection. The next interval act is all the female JESC participants for Russia (Alexandra Golovchenko, Ekaterina Ryabova and the Tolmachevy Twins) singing a Julia Sancheva song. Julia joins them at the end of the song.
After another commercial break, we have the results the winner was chosen by 75/25 jury and televoting, with the voting starting at the first song:
