This afternoon, the Polish national broadcaster TVP (Telewizja Polska) has announced it’s withdrawal from the next Eurovision Song Contest, due to take place in Baku next May. This has come as the channel announces it’s program for the next year on their website.

According to the plans published on the broadcasters’ website, TVP plan to devote most of their programming schedule to the upcoming Euro-2012 championships, due to take place in Poland and Ukraine next June. Thus, the broadcaster has commissioned a number of different programs related to the competition. Programming dedicated to the Olympics in London will also be broadcast on the first channel, which will be one of the channels’ main priorities the football fans are over.

Furthermore, a comment left on the TVP1 (the broadcaster’s first channel) Facebook page by the broadcaster states “TVP does not engage in Eurovision 2012. Please direct questions to: widzowie.tvp1@tvp.pl“.

Earlier this year Magdalena Tul represented Poland in Eurovision 2011 with ‘Jestem’ but was unable to qualify to the Eurovision Song Contest final. Their last qualification was in 2008 with “For Life” by Isis Gee, but their best result was in on their debut year when Edyta Górniak made it to second place with “To nie ja!” behind the winners from Ireland.
