The Portuguese national broadcaster RTP has received over 400 songs for this year’s Festival da Canção. The deadline for submitting songs for Festival da Canção ended this past Saturday. RTP announced that the festival this year will contain a “newcomers” category, who are going to sing in front of a professional jury in the upcoming days. The famous artists will qualify automatically, as they don’t have to be critiqued. Festival da Canção is scheduled to be held in March 2012. The winner of the festival is going to represent Portugal in Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

RTP is going to announce some of the participant names in the upcoming days.
