Romania: Ilinca & Alex Florea go to Kiev with Yodel It!

Ilinca & Alex Florea have won Selectia Nationala and will represent Romania in Kiev. Their song “Yodel It” is a mix of rap and yodel.

The choice for the traditionally Swiss Yodel music is interesting, especially because Switzerland are sending a Romanian singer (Timebelle) to Kiev themselves. Alex Florea told ESC Daily earlier this week that such an exchange is “the real meaning of Celebrate Diversity”.

In the final, Ilinca & Alex Florea beat nine other competitors in a 100% televote. Runner-up was Mihai Traistariu, who had already represented Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest of 2006. With his dance song “Tornero” he finished in 4th place back then. Tonight he performed “I won’t Surrender”, a ballad.

Maximum score

Three songs topped the jury vote last week: Alex & Ilinca won with the maximum score possible. Xandra and Mihai followed closely. However the jury did not have any influence on the outcome tonight. Last week’s scores were deleted and the Romanian public decided the winner through 100% televoting.

Tonight, Xandra quickly turned out to have less support with televoters than she had with the jury. She finished in 5th place. Her spot in the top 3 was taken by the duet Instinct, who finished in third place. Boyband Maxim ended up as number 4th.
