This afternoon from a press event in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, VRT announced the format of their show to select a song for Junior Eurovision 2010, entitled “Junior Eurosong”. After much discussion regarding the concept of the show, VRT have decided on a week long spectacle that will take place at the end of September. The main idea is a “duels” concept.
Starting on Monday 27th September, there will be four live ‘duel’ shows, where in each two of the overall eight contestants will compete against eachother in the aim to qualify for the final, on Friday 1st October. Details about which acts will compete against eachother will be released soon. A jury will be responsible for deciding who will go forward to the final. Using this format, the amount of songs in the show will be halved to four. The duel rounds will be broadcast from 17:45 – 19:10 CET.
At the final on Friday 1st October, the remaining four songs will each compete in the hope of representing Belgium at Junior Eurovision. However, this time there will be no duels, instead all the artists will sing once, both the public along with the jury will decide on a winner. The final will be broadcast from 17:45 – 19:25 CET.
As we have previously reported, the host(ess) of the show will be Kristien Maes, who has both acted as a coach during Junior Eurosong, and commentated for Belgium at the international final. Members of the jury will be as follows:
• Walter Grootaers – Singer/TV presenter
• Jelle van Dael – Singer in “Lasago”
• Stan Van Samang – Singer/Actor
• Ralf Mackenbach – Winner of Junior Eurovision 2009, representing The Netherlands
• Kids Jury – Made up of Laura Omloop (JESC 2009), Eva from Trust (JESC 2007) and Thor (JESC 2006)
You can hear all of the songs involved in Belgian “Junior Eurosong” at the official YouTube page, and the show’s theme song “Superride” below:
Over the next few weeks, we will be publishing information about all eight acts that will compete in the selection. We wish good luck to all of the participants!
