German artist Mave O’Rick has submitted the infections pop track “My Beat” to the Swiss preselections. We caught up with Mave O’Rick and chatted about his career so far, his experiences in music and of course, why he entered the Swiss preselections this year!
Check out what Mave O’Rick had to say below;
ESCDaily.com: First, can you introduce yourself to our readers, how you got interested in music and your achievements so far?
Mave O’Rick: My name is Mave O’Rick and I am a pop artist from Germany. I compose, write and produce my songs mostly on my own. I make pop music with various influences, and I’ve loved pop music since I was a child. This year I released my second studio album called “Neo Messiah” and launched the international music project “Song Invasion”, which brought together artists from different countries. The first edition was a success, so a second one is in the making. I also took part in the Golden Melody International Song Festival this year in Cyprus with a German dance song called “Von Oben”, reaching a place in the Top 10 and I toured through Germany and Austria during this year’s summer. My coolest collaboration will be released in a few weeks, I am producing a former Eurovision winner -- which is extremely exciting. Unfortunately, I can’t tell more about the details yet. On 15th October I will play a concert in Lodz/Poland, so all you Polish guys and girls outside, come and meet me there!!
ESCDaily.com: What made you decide to submit a song for Switzerland this year?
Mave O’Rick: I’ve always loved Switzerland, the Swiss people and landscape and the hospitality. I couldn’t image any other country, I want to represent at Eurovision. I would wear a red dress with a white cross on it at the pre-selection show and would paint my nails in the same design as well – BULLSH!T
-- Of course I like Swiss people and Switzerland as much as I like all the other European countries. Switzerland has an open selection and here I am, taking this opportunity, like all the other foreign singers. It’s all about fun and presenting a song. If people like it, I am happy.
ESCDaily.com: Tell us exactly, what is your ‘Beat’? How does this song express you as an artist?
Mave O’Rick: Smart question, since my song is called “My Beat”
. Well, I like to dance, so a beat is important. I did so many songs in the last year that had a message or a deeper meaning, so I just wanted to do a track that says: Dance, have fun, that’s it… then the Irish lyricist Aidan O’Connor offered me some lyrics, which matched perfectly with my ideas for a song about beats and clubs. Actually the dance floor is the place in the world where people get together peacefully and have a joint party without discrimination, hatred and prejudices, just dancing to one and the same beat… well so again another song with a great message, as I just realised!
ESCDaily.com: Are you a Eurovision fan? Do you have a favourite song from the contest?
Mave O’Rick: Yes, I am! Yes, I do! It is definitely “Fra Mols Til Skagen”.
ESCDaily.com: Can you tells us your experiences from the Golden Melody International Song Festival in Cyprus?
Mave O’Rick: It was so much fun to meet and get to know artists from all over the world. Every experience opens new doors, which eventually lead to the next level. I am so happy I did this and wouldn’t wanna miss it.
ESCDaily.com: What are your future plans?
Mave O’Rick: I make music because I love it. I use it to channel my ideas and all the stuff that I need to say. So I certainly won’t stop any time soon. Taking part in contests or competitions is just a small part of it, and I don’t take it too seriously. I am working on several projects right now and I love to change my style, try something new and kick some ass from time to time, music-wise.
ESCDaily.com: Do you have a message to the ESCDaily.com readers?
Mave O’Rick: Enjoy the new season!
