The Netherlands: Joan Franka to sing ‘You and me’ in Baku

Joan Franka will represent The Netherlands in Baku. The singer-songwriter won the Dutch national final tonight with her song ‘You and me’, despite a lot of criticism about her clothing. Soul singer Ivan Peroti and diva Pearl Josefzoon got ahead in the jury voting, but Joan took the televotes by a huge distance.

Dutch Eurovision fans were relieved by the professional television show that presented the six candidates tonight. After two years of messy programs, in which one time the winner was almost decided by flipping a coin, producer John de Mol took over the show and turned into a real mini-Eurovision Song Contest. Six songs battled their way to the final in head-to-head confrontations.

Pearl won against Tim
Joan won against Raffaela
Ivan won against Kim

An international jury was asked to give an advising vote, which did not count for the real results. Still in all three battles the professional jury followed their advice. In the final both the international and the professional jury chose Ivan, but the televoters gave the ticket for Baku to ‘You and me’, a song Joan Franka wrote herself. It’s a typical campfire song: small but powerful, true music which reminds the close listener to Tom Dice.
