Dutch broadcaster TROS has announced that they will reveal the National Finalists on Thursday, January 5th, 2012. The Dutch National Final is scheduled to be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012.

Due to the huge number of entries, a total nearly reaching 500, plus the time it is taking for TROS to accurately go through the entries, the announcement has been pushed back to early January. The selection committee expects to examine all the entries this month.

TROS director Peter Kuipers commented; “The number of entries has really exceeded our expectations and the selection is more difficult than we thought. We are looking for that special number to catch on throughout Europe. That means a good song, but the overall picture is also correct. Sharpening the songs and the different disciplines together, is a challenge that brings a lot of time and where the selection committee is now busy. We understand well that artists, songwriters and arrangers are awaiting the redeeming call, but we ask them to have some patience. “
