It’s been rumoured for some months that Turkey’s participation in the contest could be in jeopardy for 2013, but news has finally come from the broadcaster to set straight the rumours.
The Turkish broadcaster for Eurovision (TRT) has stated: ‘We will have a song in Malmö’. After receiving the approval from the Board of Directors of the public broadcaster, Turkish television will begin preparing to choose the Turkish entry for Malmö.
Turkey debuted in Eurovision back in 1975 with the song Bir dakika Seninle by Semiha Yanki, and it took many years for the nation to achieve a high position in the standings. In 2003, Turkey finally was victorious thanks to Sertab Erener and her classic entry “Everyway That I Can”. In recent editions, Turkey qualified to the final each year with ease. However that came to an end in 2011 where the country spent their first year out of the finals since the semifinal system was introduced to the contest. The most popular selection method for the broadcaster is a complete internal choice of artist and song by a TRT appointed committee.
Is Turkey your favourite country at the Eurovision Song Contest? Stay tuned for more news about their participation in Malmö!
