Web TV: The ESC Daily Show (4)

ESC Daily is back with our in-depth talkshow: The ESC Daily Show. Live from the Press Centre in Vienna, Steef van Gorkum is talking with notable guests from the Eurovision world.

In this fourth episode from within the Stadthalle, Australian journalist Alistair Birch from SBS Radio was on our show, together with Luke Fisher from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest team of the EBU. The talked about the aftermath of the first semi final, and of course about Australia and JESC.

Alistair Birch is delighted to have his own country taking part for real, after he has been following the event for many years now: “It is massive. Paul Clarke and the head of SBS told me last year that they would try to get in. I thought it was impossible, but I’ve never been happier to be wrong. We will always be a guest, but we also take part in the Asia-Pacific contest, which might invite a European country in the future. I can’t speak for them, but a cross-cultural mix could be happening on a more global level. “

Michele and Anita from San Marino took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest the last couple of years and last year we also had the Tolmachevy Twins from Russia. It looks like Junior Eurovision can be a stepping stone for the adult contest. Luke Fisher: “The idea of Junior Eurovision is that you are promoting singing young talents. And whether or not that will leads up to a way towards the real Eurovision, is up for debate. Because you can’t push people. But it does get a young generation involved in the Eurovision brand.”
