Malta: 141 songs received for the national final

The Maltese national broadcaster, PBS, announced that they received a total of 141 songs for their Eurovision preselection for 2011! That is a total of 18 songs more than for the contest in Oslo.

This number is not the highest number of received songs in Malta, might be because of the new rules introduced for this year’s Maltese selection, which allow entering 4 songs for any Maltese composers, and only 2 songs for foreign ones.

The first selection of the Maltese contest is gonna start soon, with a special professional jury will select the best ones out of all the received entries. The second phase is gonna be also “internal”, with the selected performers performing their songs live in front of the selection jury, which will then choose the best 24 songs which will enter round 3.

In round 3, a mixture of jury and televoting (jury 75% + televoting 25%) is gonna give us the best 16 songs, which we will see in the final, to be held in February. The winner will be decided by a mix of jury (60%) and televoting (40%).
