We may not get to see our 2020 favourites take to the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on our Eurovision favourites. This series is aimed to discover the team’s favourite entries from the 21st century, from 2001 to 2019.
In collaboration with Eurovision Union, we will be reviewing some of their 21st Century favourites, while over on their site, you will find their reviews of our favourites!
Below our reviews, you will find a poll where you can vote for your favourite Eurovision entry from the 21st Century.
Azerbaijan
Dennis Reviews Anita’s 21st Century Favourite
Samra – Miracle | 17th place, 117 points (Final)
Azerbaijan is one of my favourite Eurovision nations that delivered the goods year after year. Especially in their ‘early’ years, setting the bar high with one top-10 result after another. Despite their results dropping a bit, I still liked their entries, including ‘Miracle’ by Samra. Though the song works for me more in the official studio version, Samra was not as good in her live performance, however it was a well deserved finalist in 2016. I also believe the early draw in a very strong final field did not help Azerbaijan as well.
Brandon Reviews Joshua’s 21st Century Favourite
Aysel & Arash – Always | 3rd place, 207 points (Final)
When I hear this song, I always get reminded it was the song Putin heard live in Moscow during the ESC 2009 rehearsals, haha! Deserved top 3, so catchy with the right amount of ethnc vibes. This always get you in the mood to party! (see what I did there)
