2000 and Whatever – Bulgaria

We may not get to see our 2020 favourites take to the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on our Eurovision favourites. This series is aimed to discover the team’s favourite entries from the 21st century, from 2001 to 2019.

In collaboration with Eurovision Union, we will be reviewing some of their 21st Century favourites, while over on their site, you will find their reviews of our favourites!

Below our reviews, you will find a poll where you can vote for your favourite Eurovision entry from the 21st Century.

Bulgaria

Dennis Reviews Anita’s 21st Century Favourite

Kristian Kostov – Beautiful Mess | 2nd place, 615 points (Final)

After a rough start at Eurovision, with a streak of non-qualifications and only one success, Bulgaria came back with a blast in the late 10’s. They almost crowned their revival with a victory in 2017. A great contemporary ballad, with perfect vocals by the young Kristian. Added up with the stunning visual powerplay by stage designer Sacha Jean-Baptiste, Bulgaria could have gone all the way. Yes, this is their best entry to date.

Brandon Reviews Joshua’s 21st Century Favourite

Poli Genova – If Love Was a Crime | 4th place, 307 points (Final)

What a comeback for both Poli and Bulgaria! LOVED the music video, was instantly hooked. Actually shocked it came 4th because I was not living for the reflective, cycle-light dress and thought it was too kitsch to gain the juror vote, but as is proven, music is most important element and this song is worthy of such praise.
