2000 and Whatever – Israel

We may not get to see our 2020 favourites take to the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on our Eurovision favourites. This series is aimed to discover the team’s favourite entries from the 21st century, from 2001 to 2019.

In collaboration with Eurovision Union, we will be reviewing some of their 21st Century favourites, while over on their site, you will find their reviews of our favourites!

Below our reviews, you will find a poll where you can vote for your favourite Eurovision entry from the 21st Century.

Israel

Dennis Reviews Anita’s 21st Century Favourite

Boaz Mauda – The Fire In Your Eyes | 9th place, 124 points (Final)

The mysterious opening of this song, on a dark stage, with ethnic vocals immediately grabs the attention of the viewers. Then Boaz enters the stage with a sympathetic performance. He closes the song in Israeli fashion, with a group feeling together with his backing singers. On the big night, his vocal performance could have been better. But the strong composition made it a well deserved top-10 finisher in the final of 2008. If only Dana International wrote something as good as this when she re-entered a few years later…

Brandon Reviews Joshua’s 21st Century Favourite

Nadav Guedj – Golden Boy | 9th place, 97 points (Final)

What a great dance song, nothing gets you up and dancing like this one. The choreo alone seals the deal for me and it’s just a great, catchy song. Got to love those ethnic elements too – Israel does it well!
