2000 and Whatever – Italy

We may not get to see our 2020 favourites take to the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on our Eurovision favourites. This series is aimed to discover the team’s favourite entries from the 21st century, from 2001 to 2019.

In collaboration with Eurovision Union, we will be reviewing some of their 21st Century favourites, while over on their site, you will find their reviews of our favourites!

Below our reviews, you will find a poll where you can vote for your favourite Eurovision entry from the 21st Century.

Italy

Dennis Reviews Anita’s 21st Century Favourite

Mahmood – Soldi | 2nd place, 472 points (Final)

The only one who came really close to Duncan Laurence in 2019 was Mahmood. And rightfully so. A contemporary song, with a lot of rap, but a chorus and gimmick with the clapping that gets everyone on board. The background of the song and story of Mahmood is even empowering this entry even more for me. A very good Italian entry and indeed one of their best of the decade. But the level in Italy has been very high in recent years, I must say.

Brandon Reviews Joshua’s 21st Century Favourite

Ermal Meta and Fabrizio Moro – Non mi avete fatto niente | 5th place, 308 points (Final)

I really like this entry from Italy, on-stage it came alive! Usually I’d be somewhat turned off by English lyrics projected on-stage but in one of the rare instances, it really worked with this entry. Such an emotional song, still gives me goosebumps to this day. Love!
