The deadline to submit a song for Melodifestivalen 2012 ended at midnight. According to SVT, a total of 3,485 songs were submitted for Melodifestivalen 2012! That is 347 songs less than last year. But nevertheless, there is also a new record – 570 songs entered for the Web Joker selection, which is 146 songs more than last year.

Christer Bjorkman is very happy with the outcome, and the amount of entered songs, and adds that it is the quality of the songs that matters, and that the work starts now.

The Web Joker voting will be opened in October and November, and casting your votes will be available at svt.se/melodifestivalen. The winner of the Web Joker will then proceed to Melodifestivalen 2012.

Out of all the other songs entered, a special jury will select the best 16 to take part in Melodifestivalen. The other15 entrants will be awarded a wildcard (invitation) by SVT. These numbers make up the 32 entrants who will compete to represent Sweden in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Baku.
