Eugent Bushpepa has won Festivali i Këngës 56 with the song ‘Mall’. He will now represent Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The winner from the RTSH broadcast was chosen by 100% jury vote.
The show started at 21:00 CET and lasted up until 01:00 CET, and was broadcast from the Palace of Congresses in Tirana. So it was a long night for performers, hosts and jury members. This show was at a much higher standard compared to previous years. Eugent breaks tradition from previous years, as the last 2 years have been solo females, so this song could do better for Albania in Lisbon.
So Eugent placed 1st, then Redon Makashi placed 2nd and Iris Neziri placed 3rd. No jury scores are available at the moment, but those are the op 3 placings from the show tonight. You can find more information about the show in the live blog we published during the evening.
Eugent is a famous Albanian rock musician. He was born in 1984, but has not lived his whole life in Albania. He moved to Italy for several years before returning to Albania to host a talk show at Top Channel. On Top Show, he is a resident singer and covers many famous songs. To date he has no albums but 12 singles, and has won 4 top music awards in Albania. He is one of Albania’s top music stars.
‘Mall’ to be performed in Albanian
Eugent Bushpepa has stated that his song “Mall” will remain in Albanian for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. He confirmed this in an interview with Eurovision Albania, which you can see below. Eugent Bushpepa explained that he does not want to change the lyrics into English as the Albanian lyrics fit the melody of the song.
The last time that a song in Albanian represented Albania at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2013, when Adrian Lulgjuraj & Bledar Sejko performed “Identitet” in Malmo, they failed to qualify for the final.
