X-Factor 2013 winner Dami Im will be representing Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. The Korean-Australian singer has been confirmed by SBS Australia during a special Conchita Wurst concert in Sydney tonight.
Born in South Korea, Im emigrated to Australia with her family at the age of nine. She began her music career as a gospel singer in Korea and independently released her debut studio album, Dream, in 2010. Three years later, Im won the fifth season of The X Factor Australia and subsequently received a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.
After winning The X Factor, Im released her debut and winner’s single “Alive“, which debuted at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. Im’s third studio album, Heart Beats, was released in 2014 and became her second top-ten album. It produced the top-twenty hits “Super Love” and “Gladiator”, which you can see below:
Dami Im is the successor of Guy Sebastian, who scored a respectable fifth place at Australia’s debut last year in Vienna with his song ‘Tonight Again‘. One year earlier in Copenhagen, Jessica Mauboy sang her song “Sea of Flags” as interval act in the second semi final. This year, for the first time in history, Australia will actually take part in a semi final. Dami Im has been drawn into the first half of the second semi on the 12th of May.
