Australia: Guy Sebastian draws 4.2 million viewers

Australia’s first official Eurovision contestant, Guy Sebastian, has delivered record ratings to SBS. More than 4.2 million Australians watched at least five minutes of the semi-finals or grand final over the weekend, broadcaster SBS claims.

This is a huge increase compared to the 2.7 million who tuned in last year. Saturday’s second semi-final had 1.07 million viewers at its peak – Eurovision’s biggest-ever peak audience on SBS.

Last weekend, Australia was allowed to participate for the first time, because of the 60th anniversary of the contest. Guy Sebastian finished in fifth place with his song ‘Tonight Again’. The EBU said that it was a one-time participation, but SBS already said that they are eagerly awaiting the next possibility to take part again.
