Australia: ‘Sia, Delta or Emily could be one of the big names’

“If we ever get to take part again, we will send an even bigger name than Guy Sebastian.” SBS Australia is waiting for their chance to jump the Eurovision stage. And should they ever do so, are they thinking about artists like Sia, Delta Goodrem or Emily Barker?

Because we asked Jill Guthrie, our music expert who is also blogging for When The Gramophone Rings, what she thinks about the “even bigger names” for Australia.

“Emily Barker would be really suitable for Eurovision, a modern singer-songwriter, who has just released a new album. Sia acknowledged the contest before, when Loïc Nottet (who covered her song red.) took part for Belgium. She has a special stage performance in which she never shows her full face. That could go either way. And Delta Goodrem (picture above) already caused a Eurovision vibe when she performed her new song ‘Wings’ on The Voice of Australia.”

One can also think about a come-back from artists that were succesful in the past, like Kylie Minogue and Natalie Imbruglia. “There are plenty of possibilities and big names for Australia, we can say that at least,” says Guthrie.
