Australian national final returns in 2022: ‘Bigger and better than ever’

Despite the many uncertainties Australia is facing during the Covid 19-pandemic, the country has big plans regarding their Eurovision plans in the future. In 2021, there will not be a national final, but the show in Gold Coast will return in 2022.

“We have every intention of bringing the show back to the Gold Coast in 2022 bigger and better than ever,” says Paul Clarke, Creative Director of Eurovision – Australia Decides and Director of Blink TV. The news comes out even though there won’t be a ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides’ show in 2021. “It’s great to know for certain that Australia will be able to cheer for Montaigne at Eurovision 2021, and we’re excited to be working with her on a new song and staging.”

Due to travel restrictions, Australia decided to pull back from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Poland in November. Later on it was decided that the young stars will sing from their native countries, but at the time Australia decided to skip a year, this was not known yet. It creates a situation where Australia has the chance to wait a bit longer about deciding if they can (and need to) go to Rotterdam in May 2021.
