Sources within the core team of organisers for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest has now confirmed that the reference group meeting and allocation draw for the semifinals will take place on the 25th and 26th of January in next year’s host country – Azerbaijan.
During the meetings and discussions regarding the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, the reference group – made up of members from France, Sweden, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, Belgium and Azerbaijan will get a feel for the host city and see the progress made by the organisers for the upcoming event. On January 26th, countries allocated to the semifinals will be divided into pots and therefore drawn into the first and second halves of both semifinals, which are due to take place on the 22nd and 24th of May 2012. As always, the big 5 (Germany, France, Italy, Spain & United Kingdom) and the host country (Azerbaijan) will not be affected as they already automatically participate in the final of next year’s contest.
The official list of participating countries is expected to be revealed in January.
