Baku 2012: “Trackshittaz” to represent Austria

[cft format=0]
“Trackshittaz” will represent Austria at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, with the song “Woki mit deim popo”. The duo beat off competition from nine other finalists in a two hour live show.

Trackshittaz are a Hip-hop duo, made up of Lukas Plöchl and Manuel Hoffelner. They are from the Mühlviertel region in the north of Austria, and started working together since they were teenagers. Their career kicked off in late 2010, when Lukas entered the casting show “Helden von morgen” (Stars of tomorrow). He performed the song “Oida Taunz!” in the first show, and him along with Hoffelner were signed up to Sony Music. The song reached #1 in the countries’ charts after being released online, and was the first hip-hop song to ever reach the top of the chart in Austria. Subsquently, the duo entered the Austrian selection for Eurovision 2011; where they placed 2nd to Nadine Beiler.

Since last year’s national selection, Trackshittaz have released a total of seven singles and three albums (as well as one in Germany), which have sold over 45,000 copies between them. “Woki mit deim popo” (EN: “Shake your ass”) is in the Mühlviertel dialect of German, and has been released since December 2011. The group spoke to ESCDaily this week about their second Eurovision attempt, which you can read here.
