Blas Cantó sings ‘Universo’ for Spain at Eurovision 2020

Spain will be represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam by singer Blas Cantó. The 27 year old singer has been selected internally by the Spanish broadcaster RTVE, to sing the song ‘Universo’.

Since Spain is a member of the so-called big-5, they have a direct spot in the grand final on the 16th of May. The song that Blas Cantó will sing has not been presented yet.

Blas Cantó has a history at Junior Eurovision

In 2004 Blas Cantó took part in the preselection of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. He finished in fourth place, behind María Isabel, who eventually went on to win the whole contest. In 2011 he was a member of the group Auryn, which took part at the Spanish national final, but he did not make it to Düsseldorf.

In recent years, Spain used the popular preselection show Operación Triunfo as their selection method. But after two disappointing result, Spain has now decided to go back to an internal choice.

Spain is the second country to announce their name for Rotterdam 2020. Earlier, Belgium already decided that the group Hooverphonic will be at Eurovision.

  1. Great. Good choice. Let’s hope that with him the period of contentless Spanish jumping on stage has been closed forever!

  2. He also tried to represent Spain with his former group “Auryn” in 2011 but they didn’t make it and finally Lucía Pérez was selected
