Cyprus: “The Eurovision Song Project” kicked off

After a break in 2014, Cyprus returns to the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the biggest selection process ever held in Cyprus – “The Eurovision Song Project”. It kicked off this evening and after a total amount of nine auditions and “Eurochallenge” shows the big final will take place on 1st February 2015.

During the seven weekly audition shows a jury will decide which of the 55 acts with their original songs will progress to the second phase. The jury is comprised of former Cypriot representatives, Elena Patroklou (1991), Alex Panayi (1995 and 2000) and Despina Olympiou (2013), and Tasos Trifonos. In the second phase in form of the two “Eurochallenge” shows the judges will select the 10 best songs and acts, of which only 6 will compete for the Cypriot ticket to Vienna in the grand final in February 2015 (50% jury, 50% televoting).

During the different phases the judges will be joined by Eurovision icons such as Christer Björkman (Swedish Head of Delegation) and Greek producer and composer Dimitris Kontopoulos (Ukraine 2008, Greece 2009, Belarus 2012, Azerbaijan 2013, Russia 2014). “The Eurovision Song Project” is hosted by the model and presenter Antri Karantoni.

The acts competing in the first audition show this evening were (qualifiers in bold):

5. Christodoula Tsaggaras – ΚΟΡΗ ΤΗΣ ΜΕΣΟΓΕΙΟΥ

6. Iphigenia Loukaidou featuring Lyrical Eye – Remember my love

7. Charalambous “Luna” Joseph – I wanna dance (I say tempo)

8. Elena Kousi – Just another girl

9. Maria Evangelou – Still
