Cyprus bows out of Eurovision 2014

Cypriot national broadcaster CyBc announced early this morning that they would not be sending an act to Copenhagen, due to the current financial situation of the country. Like many nations are finding, the expense of the competition is a large check to write.

To conserve their budget, public broadcaster RIK declared that a program cut for the 2014 year would aid them economically. And so Eurovision Song Contest was one of those programs on the list.

This makes Cyprus the second country to officially resign from Copenhagen 2014, after Croatia broke the news two weeks ago. Cyprus missed out on the Grand Final in Malmö, finishing 15th in Semi-Final 1 with Despina Olympiou’s song An Me Thimáse.
