Daily Coffee: “First semi final is built around six female up-tempo acts”

Albina, Croatia, Second Rehearsal, Rotterdam Ahoy, 12 May 2021 — EBU / Thomas Hanses

In today’s podcast Daily Coffee we talk in-depth about the first semi final of Eurovision 2021. With a lot of strong uptempo songs by females, the show has been build around these women. But they probably won’t all make it.

“When you look at the runner order, you see that there are six female solo acts in kind of a similar genre,” analyses Steef van Gorkum. “They perform in slots 5, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16. It looks like the production team had a problem in dividing these acts over the show and tried to spread them as well as possible.”

These songs determine the flow of the show, and will also determine a large part of the result, says Van Gorkum. “It’s so interesting to see how many of them will make it to the final, because that will also impact the chances of other, perhaps weaker, songs to make it through in stead of one of these uptempo songs.”
