A Dal 2014: ‘Participation of András Kállay-Saunders in danger’

One of the most popular fan favorites, András Kállay-Saunders may face disqualification from Hungarian national song selection for potential rule-breaking. That is the news in Hungarian newspapers today.

Kállay-Saunders, performer of Running and reviewed by many as the most-likely successor act, received a lot of attention in Hugarian media today. According to Velvet.hu and Hír24.hu, he is currently suspect in an ongoing police investigation.

Last year he and his girlfriend Reny Tolvai (who won the singing competition Megasztár 5 which also made Kállay-Saunders famous) were leaving a club when they got attacked by two men. Verbal abuse supposedly escalated into a physical fight, in which the men were hospitalized. Now Kállay-Saunders is under police investigation as a suspect of an assault. The men reported him, but he claims he was trying to defend himself and his girlfriend and that the fight was started by the strangers.

This investigation can bring fear in the hearts of Kállay-Saunders’ supporters. One of the rules of A Dal 2014 state that those artists who are found guilty of a crime have to be disqualified from the show. An official statement by MTVA is yet to be released.

Update: Kállay-Saunders is safe, no disqualification has been made. „The broadcaster has made its decision after consulting with András Kállay-Saunders, his management, his lawyer and our lawyers. […] The status of the investigation against him is unclear therefor he deserves to be defended as an innocent as anyone else” – said Rita Lencsó on the behalf of MTVA.

This means the artist can continue celebrating his birthday tonight and will have a chance to perform his hit song Running in the second heat of A Dal 2014 on Saturday.
