Dave Goodman: Australia’s loyalty is rewarded

In the Bulgarian capital Sofia, during a busy Junior Eurovision-day, ESC Daily sat down with Dave Goodman, communications officer for the EBU to discuss the news that Australia will once again participate in the Eurovision Song Contest.

‘After the 2015 contest, SBS said to us, we’d love to come back’, Goodman says in this exclusive interview with ESC Daily. ‘And as you know, Australia has always had a very special relationship with the Eurovision Song Contest.’ Answering the question if any other non-European countries are currently on the verge of participation, Goodman answers: ‘At the moment it is only Australia. But [in this world] we’re all about globalization, and we’re looking at ways to make [the contest] bigger and better’.

  1. It’s a bit misleading to quote him as saying ‘weโ€™re all about globalization’ as it implies the EBU is all about globalization in terms of their strategy for the contest.

Listening to the interview it is clear he means this in a more general sense about the modern world: “We’re all about globalization now, the world is connected by the internet…”

    • Not intentional, Martin. We’re just trying to give a good (but also brief) overview of what he said. And if you’re really interested, it’s of course always best to watch the entire interview to know exactly how the conversation went down. Glad to see you took the time to do that ๐Ÿ™‚
