Sweden: David Lindgren to host Melodifestivalen 2018

SVT announced David Lindgren as the host for the 58th edition of Melodifestivalen this morning. Lindgren returns to the Melfest stage solo after sharing hosting duties with Clara Henry and Hasse Andersson earlier this year.

David Lindgren: a three time Melfest finalist

In addition to his previous stint as a host, Lindgren has also taken the stage three times successfully as a competitor in 2012, 2013 and 2016. His first outing on the Melfest stage in 2012 was well-received by the Swedish public, who voted him into the final round. He placed 4th overall that year. In 2013, he advanced to the final again where he finished in 8th place. He made it to the finals once again in 2016, but had his lowest ranking to-date, finishing in 11th place.

Final again in Stockholm

After the announcement of his selection, Lindgren said. “I was so very honored when they asked again”. He and Melodifestivalen’s project leader Anette Helenius promised new surprises for viewers next year. Those surprises will be revealed on 3 February 2018 when the first Melodifestivalen semi-final is broadcast live from the Swedish city of Karlstad. There will be a total of 4 semi-finals during February. Andra Chansen follows on 3 March and the final in Stockholm on 10 March.
