Denmark: Almost 1000 songs for Danish Grand Prix

Danish broadcaster DR has reached a new record of submitted songs for their preselection in the Eurovision Song Contest. Almost 1000 songs have been submitted to take part in the Danish final in 2016.

There have been 982 applications. The previous record was 872 songs in 2014, the year after the victory of Emmelie de Forest in Malmö. This time however, Denmark did not even reach the final in Vienna 2015! Perhaps the Danish songwriters realize that Denmark often seems to win the contest in Sweden…

According to Jan Storage Lundme, chief entertainment for DR, the great interest comes due to the qualitative leap the Eurovision Song Contest has made. Earlier in the season, DR stated that they want to learn from the mistakes made last year and thus bring Eurovision back to Denmark.

Hitmaker and producer Mich Hedin Hansen – better known as Cutfather – was appointed responsible for this year’s Danish participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. The Danish final will be held in Horsens, on the 13th of February next year.
