Ermal Meta is one of the 26 participating candidates in the Sanremo Festival 2021 in Italy. The winner of 2018, that went to Eurovision together with Fabrizio Moro, is not the only former victorious candidate to make a come-back to the prestigous competition.

Francesco Renga, who won with ‘Angelo’ in 2005, and Arisa, the winner of 2014 with the song ‘Controvento’ also make a return to Sanremo. Francesca Michielin, the artist that represented Italy at Eurovision 2016, teams up with Fedez at Sanremo 2021.

Diodato, the winner of 2020, is not on the list to defend his title. With that, he officially does not come back to Eurovision in 2021. Italian broadcaster RAI will give the winner of Sanremo 2021 the option to go the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. Should the winner decline, they will pick another artist from the list to travel to The Netherlands.
