ESC Daily Show: ‘Netherlands helped raise the bar at Eurovision’

“The Netherlands have helped raise the bar in Eurovison, by sending artists like Anouk.” This says Daniel Gould from in our third episode of the ESC Daily Show in Stockholm. He was joined on stage by Dutch radio DJ Giel Beelen.

“Credibility, authenticity and quality does do well at Eurovision. It is a fallacy to think that if you bringing something creble and good, it will lose out to something cheesy. The opposite is true. The cream will rise to the top,” Daniel Gould explains.

Giel Beelen, who discovered Douwe Bob through his talent show ‘The best singersongwriter in The Netherlands’, was in the Eurovision arena for the first time in his live, and had a pleasant surprise of how big the contest is in real life. He also likes the changes made in the contest, like the producers of the host broadcaster making the running order. “Of course the running order matters. Making a playlist is like an art. The difference how a song feels, when another songs has been played before or after. That is so big. I think the balance was pretty good. The set-up by the producers has been done very well. It is a good thing.”
