Eurovision 2017: Contest might be one week earlier, host city known on August 1st

Ukrainian broadcaster NTU has provided more details about their preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The host city will be selected by August 1st, and the contest might take place one week earlier than previously communicated.

The selection of the host city will last from 24 June to 1 August. On the 22nd of July, two cities will be shortlisted and between the 22nd of July and the 1st of August, potential host cities will be inspected with representatives of the European Broadcasting Union and members of the organizing committee. A press conference, confirming which city will be hosting Eurovision 2017, will be held afterwards.

Ukraine has changed the estimated date of the competition at this time. The first semi final might take place at May 9th, the second semi on May 11th and the Grand Final on May 13th. Originally, the EBU gave out their preliminary dates one week later. NTU explains that their tentative dates are still subject to change.

A big problem will be the fact that the UEFA Champions League semi-finals ánd the UEFA Europa League semi-final will be held on the 9th and 11th of May as well. In recent years, the EBU has always tried to schedule Eurovision on nights that there is no European football.
