Finland: Acts for UMK 2017 announced

The Finnish acts for national selection UMK 2017 are revealed. Today, local broadcaster YLE has announced ten acts to compete at Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017.

Already for the sixth time Finns are selecting their Eurovision entry through Uuden Musiikin Kilpail (UMK). However, it is the first time the contest is only consisting of one final show of ten competing acts. All the ten acts will compete straight away at the Grand Final to be held on 28 January at Metro Arena.

The ten acts for UMK 2017 are as follows:

In the above mentioned list are included the acts meeting the earlier announced criterion – at least one of the writers and the lead singer(s) should have Finnish citizenship or live in Finland permanently.

The voting procedure of UMK 2017 also faces a slight change – an international jury will be included to have their role in determining the winner. In the past years, the winner was determined by 50/50 combination of public voting and jury voting that consisted of any kind of professional and cultural groups from taxi drivers to Eurovision experts. Krista Siegfrids will host the contest.

In the last two years Finland failed to qualify to the final. The country was last represented by Sandhja at the 2016 Eurovison Song Contest in Stockholm with her song ‘Sing it Away‘. She performed at the first semi final and ended up 15th failing to qualify.
