
Finland’s national final, Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020 (ENG: Contest for New Music) took place on the last Super Saturday of the Eurovision 2020 season and ‘Looking Back’ sung by Aksel Kankaanranta has been selected to represent Finland in Rotterdam later this year, through a combination of public vote and eight international juries.
How the show happened
UMK 2020 took place in Tampere in Southern Finland, six acts performed bringing back the full, national final format to Finland after its previous internal artist selections with Saara Aalto and Darude.
Eight international juries provided 50% of the voting for the Finnish entry. The jurors represented the following countries -Bulgaria, Estonia, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Russia and the United Kingdom. They voted massively for Aksel Kankaanranta, who took a commanding lead. Erika Vikman won the televote with “Cicciolina”, however she was unable to gain back the top position.
