Finnish broadcaster YLE has announced the judges in charge of deciding the outcome of the first phase of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, the Finnish national selection. A total of 40 demo’s have made it online this year with only 12 continuing onto the live shows. The final will have a total of six participants.
YLE revealed that this year the permanent judges are Wallu Valpio (Hitlantis), Anna Laine (Radio Helsinki’s head of programming), Tomi Saarinen (YleX radio’s head of music) and Jorma Hietamäki (Radio Suomi’s head of music). YLE also announced that each week UMK will have a star guest judge, with singer-songwriter Anna Puu being the guest judge of the first week. The following week Laura Närhi, also a singer-songwriter, will take over in the guest judge position.
The first episode of UMK begins on January 27th and will be broadcast on YLE TV2, with the final taking place almost one month later on the 25th of February. The winner and therefore Finnish representative in Baku will be selected by the public.
