Finland: Norma John’s ‘Blackbird’ wins UMK 2017

Norma John has won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 and will represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song ‘Blackbird’. While some other early fan favourites struggled, it was a clear victory for the pure ballad.

Listening to the studio versions for the songs performed tonight, there was a lot of hope for Finland this year. But unfortunately, not many artists actually delivered when it mattered, as you can read back in our live blog. Our editor Allie Lindo followed the show and gave her live commentary there.

The show was held in the Espoo Metro Areena in Espoo, and hosted by Krista Siegfrids, Finland’s Eurovision artist in 2013. The winner was decided for 50% by the votes of ten international juries and the other 50% will come from televotes and online voting.

Final Score

Below you can see the final score (on the right), with the televote score displayed on the left.

Norma John was the clear winner for the juries, and also the televoters gave the duo the most points. 182 in total was enough to win it all in Finland! Therefore, the song “Blackbird” will be Finland’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
