After reaching the Eurovision final after three years of non-qualification, Finland will use a similar format for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Broadcaster YLE announced that there will be a selection based on invitation again.
This year this was successful as Saara Aalto was chosen to perform three songs in the national final in Finland. The winning song ‘Monsters’ was a qualifier at the contest in Lisbon in May this year.
Since 2012 Finland is using the show format Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, but after not reaching the final in 2015, 2016 and 2017, YLE decided to make radical changes to the preselection contest. Saara Aalto was selected as the solo artist to take part in UMK.
It is not known yet who will be the artist that gets to perform several songs at UMK 2019.
