Arnhem has solved one of the biggest problems of its Eurovision host city bid. The local government convinced football club Vitesse to move to another stadium for the end of the competition. If Arnhem wins the bidding process, football stadium Gelredome is now completely free in time.

A Eurovision venue needs to be free at least 6 weeks prior to the Song Contest. This was one of the reasons why Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, had to drop out of the bidding process.

Gelredome is a well-known concert venue

Arnhem is not one of the biggest or well-known cities in the Netherlands. However, Gelredome is a venue which has a lot of experience with big events. Bruce Springsteen, U2, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Tiësto, Madonna, Coldplay, Sting, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, The Rolling Stones, and Justin Timberlake have performed there in the past.

Football club Vitesse initially stated that they did not want to move for Eurovision. In the new situation, they have agreed to play at least 3 matches elsewhere in April and May. Therefore, Arnhem has solved the last big problem and can now try to threaten Rotterdam and Maastricht, who still seem to be front runners in the process.
